JS Academy for the Deaf hosts a cultural program for the special children 09 September 2015

Wednesday, September 15, 2015: JS Academy hosted a cultural program at a local park in Karachi to spread the message of unity in Pakistan. Nearly 400 special children attended the prestigious event. The theme for the event was “Unity & Friendship, Hum Sub Ek Hain meaning we are all one and we don’t believe in differentiating between normal and disabled”.

The event was made very memorable by the efforts of the students and the faculty of JS Academy for the Deaf. Special Children from other schools were also invited which provided everyone with a great opportunity to interact. The event consisted of spectacular performances by the children which proved that they are no less than the hearing children.

Chief Guest, Mr Nisar Khuhro stated “he looks forward to supporting the future of these children through different ways possible and this is a great project by the JS Academy for the Deaf. We must promote such initiatives to bring these children into the mainstream”

Ms. Laila Dossa, Chairman JS Academy for the Deaf commented on the occasion “Credit goes to the teachers who trained these special children to perform in front of so many people with such confidence”

JS Academy and Noor-E- Ali trust have been hosting programs for the special children for many years and have contributed significantly in promoting and highlighting the creative side of these special children. The JS academy is providing a great learning environment to nurture the talent of these children.

JS Academy for the deaf has been involved in educating the deaf children and promoting the importance of sign language. Through its education and literacy programs, the academy has provided a great platform for both boys and girls to further develop themselves to contribute back to the society. JS Academy for the Deaf has been imparting education to the differently abled children for the past 10 years along with higher education up to Bachelor degree level. The school is run on charity received from individuals, philanthropists and the Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation.

Seminar on autism awareness in Lahore

A seminar on Autism Awareness was organized in Lahore by the ASDRC on 29th August at a local hotel. It was attended by more than one hundred parents and professionals including teachers, doctors, and therapists.

Rukhsana Shah, CEO of Autism Spectrum Disorders Resource Centre (ASDRC), in her welcome address, expressed her gratitude to the MJS Foundation for its financial and moral support, which enabled the Centre to offer the finest trainings to teachers and parents free of cost. She stated that it was the Mission of ASDRC to create a critical mass of trained teachers and care-givers and to create maximum awareness in the country about autism and learning disabilities.

In her inaugural address, Mrs. Mahvash Jahangir Siddiqui, Chairperson of MJS Foundation, stated the Foundation was striving to improve health, education and social outcomes in Pakistan through the establishment of additional facilities in existing public and private hospitals, introducing educational and vocational colleges for persons with disabilities, empowering youth through leadership and enterprise support programmes, improving the quality of education and providing relief and rehabilitation services during natural disasters. The recently established Autism Resource Centre in Lahore set up by the Foundation is designed to create greater awareness about autism and learning disabilities in the country, and to train parents and teachers of special and mainstream schools in the relevant fields.

Dr. Shazia Maqbool, Head of Developmental Paediatrics at Children’s Hospital, Lahore, was the key note speaker. She gave a detailed presentation on the Autism Spectrum Disorders. She stated that her Autism Unit was designed to cater for 3000 children in a year, but now the Unit is catering for 30,000 children annually. There was a dire need to expand the facilities of the Developmental Paeds section on an urgent basis.

Dr. Fauzia Saleem, speech pathologist at the CMH Lahore, gave a detailed presentation on language, speech and communication disorders, especially among children with ASD. Ms. Maliha Latif of M/s Impact Psyche Consultants, gave a presentation on ADHD, while Ms. Asma Ahmed, Clinical Psychologist at ASDRC discussed treatment and management techniques for children with ASD.

During the event, Director JS Bank, Mr. Kalim ur Rahman delivered a speech in which he welcomed all the guests and gave an overview of the achievements of the bank, providing an opportunity for the young cadets to interact with JS Bank Management and learn about the corporate culture.

JS Bank goes international – granted branch license in Bahrain

Bahrain, August 3, 2015: JS Bank was recently granted a wholesale banking license by The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) for branch operations in Bahrain.

This will be the JS Bank’s first branch outside Pakistan and in addition to building upon the existing relationship with the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA) region; the branch will facilitate business for regional corporates, expatriates, Government of Pakistan organizations and any Pakistani banks that do not have a presence in the region.

Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation contributes PKR 15 million for the Chamalang Beneficiary Education Program

Quetta: Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation (MJSF) contributed PRK 15 million to Chamalang Beneficiary Education Program (CBEP).  Mr. Ali Raza Siddiqui, Director MJSF and Mr. Imran Haleem Shaikh, EVP JS Bank presented the cheque to Commander Southern Command, Lt. General Nasser Khan Janjua in Quetta recently.  Maj. Gen (r) Tahir Habib Siddiqui, board member Habibullah Coastal Power Company and other senior officials were also present to mark the occasion.

Chamalang Beneficiary Education Program (CBEP) is one of the largest social sector development programmes in Baluchistan, being supervised by Pakistan Army. The project which started with an initial enrolment of 303 students of District Kohlu and Loralai in 2007 has grown appreciably to 3761 students from 23 Districts of the province.  CBEP continues to contribute immensely towards delivery of quality education to children from poverty striven and backward areas of Baluchistan. The project bears expenditure on fees of day scholars besides bearing the cost of boarding, lodging, books, uniforms and tuition fees of students in boarding schools all over the country.

Sustainability of this programme is set to accrue desired dividends as this educated youth becomes a part of the work force in the various sectors of the economy. This continuity is ensured by active participation of development institutions and donor agencies. Commenting on the occasion, Ali Raza Siddiqui highlighted the role of MJSF and said the foundation has always been at the forefront of supporting such causes and always aims to reach out to the commonly unreached and deprived segments of the society.

“JS Bank Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Wheelchair Cricket Tournament, 2015 Inauguration”

JS Bank Limited (JSBL) has sponsored the JS Bank Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2015 Wheelchair Cricket Tournament. The tournament has been started from May 18, 2015. A total of 12 teams will be participating in this mega domestic event which comprises of 15 matches to be played on different grounds in Karachi

The JS Bank Quaid-e-Azam Wheelchair Cricket Trophy 2015, undoubtedly bears the status of being first ever wheelchair cricket event of the country which will be streamed through video link in five other countries of South Asia and Europe.

The purpose of this mega event is to promote wheelchair cricket at national level. The idea of JS Bank Quaid-e-Azam trophy 2015 was initiated when the Pakistan wheelchair cricket team won the 1st International cricket series against Nepal.

JS Bank Limited and JS Global sponsored the National seminar on Peace, Security & Governance organized by Alumni Association of National Defense University (AAN) in Karachi at Marriot Hotel, Karachi. The seminar fostered discussion on significant issues faced by the people of Karachi. It was designed in a manner where the speakers deliberate on issues in different sessions and also elaborating the future scenarios and actions to be implemented to restore peace in Karachi.

The event started with a speech by Mr. Imran Haleem Shaikh, Chapter Head, AAN Sindh in which he pointed out the ongoing issues in Karachi and the role of law enforcement agencies in making Karachi a better place to live by eliminating all the possible threats.
