Ali J Siddiqui, CEO MJSF inaugurates the Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Art Gallery at the Alliance Francaise Karachi

JS Group and the Alliance Française jointly hosted a fund raiser gala dinner at the premises of the Alliance Française, Karachi to promote Art and Culture within Pakistan. The evening commenced with the plaque unveiling ceremony for the inauguration of the Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Art Gallery by Mr Ali J Siddiqui, CEO of the Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation (MJSF). This was followed by the welcome address from Ms. Johara Alatas, President of Alliance Francaise and speeches by Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui and H.E Mrs. Martine Dorance, Ambassador of France to Pakistan. Alliance Francaise is a well-known international institution in Pakistan which is carrying out, since its creation, educational and cultural activities to promote French language and culture.

Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui expressed his interest to continue supporting such initiatives and stressed the need for the private sector to contribute towards the betterment of the country through art, he stated that, ‘Supporting art is as vital as building hospitals and schools as art literally shapes national consciousness and also inspires the nation for economic and social advancement’.

A Seminar on Autism & Learning Disabilities Awareness

Seminar on Autism & Learning Disabilities Awareness was organized in Karachi by the Autism Spectrum Disorders Resource Centre (ASDRC) Lahore on 12th December at a local hotel. It was attended by more than two hundred parents and professionals including teachers, doctors, and therapists.

 

Rukhsana Shah, CEO of Autism Spectrum Disorders Resource Centre (ASDRC), in her welcoming address, expressed her gratitude to the MJS Foundation for its financial and moral support, which has enabled the Centre to offer the finest trainings to teachers and parents. She stated that it was the Mission of ASDRC to create a critical mass of trained teachers and care-givers and to create maximum awareness in the country about autism and learning disabilities.

In her inaugural address, Mrs. Mahvash Jahangir Siddiqui, Chairperson of MJS Foundation, stated the Foundation was striving to improve health, education and social outcomes in Pakistan through the establishment of additional facilities in existing public and private hospitals, introducing educational and vocational colleges for persons with disabilities, empowering youth through leadership and enterprise support programmes, improving the quality of education and providing relief and rehabilitation services during natural disasters. Autism Resource Centre in Lahore set up by the Foundation is designed to create greater awareness about autism and learning disabilities in the country, and to train parents and teachers of special and mainstream schools in the relevant fields.

 

Dr. Shahnaz Ibrahim started the seminar by bringing to light different aspects of Autism. She gave a detailed presentation on the Autism Spectrum Disorders. She told that Autism is a mental disorder and that people who are afflicted with it deserves our special attention.

Dr. Aisha Sanober from the Aga Khan University gave a presentation on ADHD. Ms Mona Qaiser gave detailed presentation about Dyslexia and its management. Whereas Ms. Asma Ahmed, Clinical Psychologist at ASDRC discussed treatment and management techniques for children with ASD and the different therapies used to help them.

Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation provides relief to earthquake victims with support of the Pakistan Air force 11 November 2015

On October 26, 2015 a devastating earthquake of 7.5 magnitude struck Pakistan mostly affecting the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, AJ&K and Punjab killing more than 250 people and injuring over 2,000.
Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation have extended all possible assistance to all effected areas of Pakistan. The Foundation has provided relief goods to the Pakistan Air Force for onwards distribution to the affected areas. Considering the destructive consequences of the earthquake, MJSF have distributed over 200 family size tents & 900 high thermal blankets to the affecties.
The Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been working towards healthcare, education and social enterprise through sustainable development to underprivileged members of society with a special focus on women, minorities, children and disabled individuals. JS Academy for the Deaf celebrates Graduation of its First B.A. Batch 10 October 2015

Karachi: JS Academyfor the Deaf celebrated the graduation ceremony of their first batch of B.A. students. An award ceremony was held to laud the brilliant efforts made by these multitalented individuals and their instructors. The graduating batch was presented with the “Best Performance” awards.

Ms. Laila Dossa, Chairman of Noor-E-Ali Trust, and Mr. Kalim-ur-Rahman, Advisor to Mahvash& Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation, graced the auspicious occasion with their presence and applauded the administration, instructors and students for their hard work and brilliance and wished them luck for future endeavors. Ms. Laila Dossa, during her speech, appreciated Mr. Jahangir Siddiqui’s continual support for the cause ever since she had presented her idea to him. She also emphasized it was very important to provide job opportunities for people with special needs.

Mr. Kalim-ur-Rahman expressed his pleasure upon seeing how well equipped the Academy is and congratulated the graduating class on their excellent performance. He went on to mention that he never could have imagined that deaf students could be educated and facilitated in a way that is hardly even available to the masses.

Principal, Ms. Shehla Ali, highlighted the achievements of the administration and students. She was proud to announce that out of a batch of 10 students, 3 had acquired distinctions while the others had scored a percentage over 70% in their B.A. final examination.

JS Academy for the Deaf is a project that was initiated by Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation and Noor-E-Ali Trust in the year 2004. The Academy started off with just 5 students and 4 teachers and since then has increased its programs exponentially and in the year 2012 they were granted affiliation with Karachi University to undertake BA Degree Program.

JS Academy for the Deaf hosts a cultural program for the special children 09 September 2015

Wednesday, September 15, 2015: JS Academy hosted a cultural program at a local park in Karachi to spread the message of unity in Pakistan. Nearly 400 special children attended the prestigious event. The theme for the event was “Unity & Friendship, Hum Sub Ek Hain meaning we are all one and we don’t believe in differentiating between normal and disabled”.

The event was made very memorable by the efforts of the students and the faculty of JS Academy for the Deaf. Special Children from other schools were also invited which provided everyone with a great opportunity to interact. The event consisted of spectacular performances by the children which proved that they are no less than the hearing children.

Chief Guest, Mr Nisar Khuhro stated “he looks forward to supporting the future of these children through different ways possible and this is a great project by the JS Academy for the Deaf. We must promote such initiatives to bring these children into the mainstream”

Ms. Laila Dossa, Chairman JS Academy for the Deaf commented on the occasion “Credit goes to the teachers who trained these special children to perform in front of so many people with such confidence”

JS Academy and Noor-E- Ali trust have been hosting programs for the special children for many years and have contributed significantly in promoting and highlighting the creative side of these special children. The JS academy is providing a great learning environment to nurture the talent of these children.

JS Academy for the deaf has been involved in educating the deaf children and promoting the importance of sign language. Through its education and literacy programs, the academy has provided a great platform for both boys and girls to further develop themselves to contribute back to the society. JS Academy for the Deaf has been imparting education to the differently abled children for the past 10 years along with higher education up to Bachelor degree level. The school is run on charity received from individuals, philanthropists and the Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation.
